Data Storage & Collection

What We DON'T Collect

  • No user accounts - We don't have registration or login systems
  • No server-side databases - We don't store your data on our servers
  • No tracking of your searches - Your word searches are private
  • No personal information - We don't ask for names, emails, or any PII

What Stays in Your Browser

All user data is stored locally in your browser using:

  • IndexedDB - For vocabulary collections, flashcard progress, and study data
  • localStorage - For search history and user preferences

This data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Is under your control
  • Can be deleted by clearing your browser data
  • Is not accessible to us or any third party

Specific Features

Vocabulary Builder & Flashcards:

  • Your saved words and flashcard progress are stored in IndexedDB
  • This data stays on your device only
  • You can export your data for backup purposes

Search History:

  • Recent searches (last 20) are stored in IndexedDB
  • Used to help you quickly access previous searches
  • Never sent to our servers

Pattern Explorer, Rhyme Finder, Etymology:

  • All searches and filters work entirely client-side
  • No data is transmitted for these features

Third-Party Services

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns (page views, popular tools). This helps us improve the site. Ahrefs is privacy-focused and does not track individual users across sites.

AI Features (Optional)

When you use optional AI features (e.g., "Explain this word in simple terms"):

  • Provider: Vercel AI Gateway with OpenAI models
  • What is sent: Only the specific word or phrase you request analysis for
  • What is NOT sent: Your vocabulary collections, search history, or any other user data
  • Purpose: Generate educational explanations and learning aids
  • Your control: AI features are entirely optional; core functionality works without them

Advertising

We display advertisements through Google AdSense. Google may use cookies for ad personalization. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.

Your Rights & Control

  • Access: All your data is in your browser's IndexedDB/localStorage
  • Delete: Clear your browser data to remove all stored information
  • Export: Use our export features to backup your vocabulary collections
  • Opt-out: Disable JavaScript to prevent local storage (though this breaks functionality)
